Journal #5
1. The teacher will introduce the topic to the students.
Topic: “What’s in a name?” Explain whether you do or do not believe that a name defines a person. Would you be a different person if your parents had given you a different name or if you had been born a “Johnson” or a “Gellar”?
2. After 5-10 minutes, the teacher will ask the students to share some of their opinions.
3. The teacher will then tell the students that one of the most famous lines from Romeo and Juliet is “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/ By any other name would smell as sweet.” The instructor will then ask the students what position they think Juliet and Romeo would take in this debate.
4. The instructor will then explain that the student will be reading the scene with this famous quote today and should be considering the importance that names play in the tragedy.
